Hardware and Software Guidelines
WorkPool is a server-based application that runs through a normal Internet browser, therefore you do not need to install any software on a user’s PC or device. You can access WorkPool from any PC or MAC on the same network (LAN, WAN or VPN) or Internet if your server is hosted on our Cloud or your own hosting facility.

Going Cloud or Hosting your own WorkPool:
The most convenient and cost effective option is to host your WorkPool server on our Cloud environment. Our hosting service takes care of all the details like backups and server updates so you don’t have to. A complete breakdown and comparison between the Cloud option and managing your own server can be found here. Please note that should you choose to manage your own server and environment an installation fee will apply and you will be required to sign up for a minimum monthly service plan for your server. Details on service fees can be found here.
Server Hardware Guidelines:
Please Note: The Server specifications listed below are guidelines only and the actual server performance and requirement will vary according to the amount of users and modules used in WorkPool as well as client data volume and management of the database. WorkPool Server hardware will need to be maintained and upgraded periodically by the client to keep in line with WorkPool features and updates. WorkPool does not take responsibility for setting up, configuring or supporting the clients network environment, P.C. hardware or third party software. This includes, but is not limited to external access to WorkPool and backups.
This configuration is ideal for a company with a small number of users and who do not work with high volumes of email

General Server Guidelines:
- Single core systems may work fine for small sites, however will not support growth above 5 – 10 users (at most).
- More RAM is always preferable
- Hard drives may be configured for RAID, however due to the various configurations and dependencies as well as possible risks involved in setting up and monitoring, such configurations, if required, must be done by yourself or your IT service provider. This is not a service offered by the WorkPool Support department and we will be unable to directly support it.
- For more than 35 Users, we recommend contacting us with the number of users you intend to have so we can better cater for your server needs
Server Operating System:
Please Note: Unless the server is hosted with us, the installation, configuration and maintenance of the Server Operating System is the responsibility of the client and not WorkPool Support. Clients must take note of the guidelines below to ensure their server is ready for the installation to take place. Technical support and assistance as may be provided by WorkPool Support is limited to WorkPool related questions only. WorkPool does not provide support for configuration of modules and programs outside of our own system requirements such as issuing and installing certificates. Configurations and support for these may vary depending on the type and version of the operating system you are using.
- We use and recommend Ubuntu Linux Server Edition (64bit version).
- In special cases we can offer limited support for Microsoft Windows Server, however additional fees and a custom service agreement will apply.
Server Virtualisation:
Please see our FAQ: Can I run WorkPool as a VM on my own server?
